We offer our short-courses to young asylum seekers, mainly from Syria, living in our partner refugee camps, detention centres or seeking refuge in other countries. Upon successful completion of their course, students will receive a certificate, which will considerably boost their future career prospects and ability to apply for longer-term academic courses.
Volunteer tutors in Oxford mentor a student for an hour a week for 6 weeks, in a course tailored to their preferences. Tutors will receive a personal briefing in advance of the course about the prospective student and their refugee camp, as well as support from the OXPAND team throughout.
Our translators between tutors and students comprise mainly of undergraduate and postgraduate Arabic students at Oxford. The personal nature of our courses makes translating between student and tutor very relaxed, and the support from the OXPAND team will make translators will feel fully equipped to facilitate our courses regardless of experience.
